On a fine day in February 2025, a ‘Mr Stott’ (not pictured) checked into our place for 1 night, seeking out the best AA Hotels Edinburgh. Unbeknown to us, he was in fact a senior representative of the most well known and well respected AA Star Rating organisation for all accomodation in the United Kingdom.
He presented his credentials on checkout and we were subequently audited and inspected to determine our all important future Star Rating. He audited everything from the breakfast service, hospitality and online reviews! Who is worthy to be part of the best AA hotels Edinburgh?
Sadly, Visit Scotland and the Scottish Tourist Board are no longer running Quality Assurance inspections. This has left us with no choice but to deal with a much higher and tougher level of U.K – Wide Star Rating Standards. Ouch!
I’m afraid Mr Stott was was no push over and his knowledge is an accumulation of 26 years inspecting and running Hotels from all over the United Kingdom. He specialises in the higher end market from the most expensive 5 Star Hotels, to all types of 5 Star accomodation. The ultimate aim is to create the best AA Hotels Edinburgh.

Scottish Tourist Board – Important Update
In late 2024, we were advised that The Scottish Tourist Board would be slowly ceasing their Quality Inspections of all properties and all tourist attractions. We were very sad to hear this news and have now been directed to AA for all future Hotel quality inspections.

2023 – Scottish Tourist Board 5 Star Confirmed!
After a tough battle for survival during those Covid years, we were very excited to welcome a surprise Quality Assurance inspection by the Scottish Tourist Board. We are most pleased to have achieved a 95% score for our 5 Star category – our highest to date! We were told, after Susan completes her ceramic frieze creation in our new dining room, we would qualify for the 5 Star GOLD rating.
The Scottish Tourist Board have been so supportive of our industry and we are so grateful to be an active part of our Edinburgh community.
2022 – Surviving Covid
In 2022, we were so pleased to carry on with enhanced standards after the Covid-19 Pandemic, during tourism recovery and beyond.
After investing our Business Bounce Back Loan into the property, we re-opened for the 2022 season with a freshly renovated Lobby and brand new, stunning dining room experience. We changed our property use from a Luxury Guest House to a 5 Star Boutique Guest House.
2022 was a special year, where we were able to thank our past guests for their financial donations. During those Covid years, we were so grateful to receive enough donations, to survive the Covid period.
Kindness makes the world go around and this was certainly true of our past guests who helped our young family during our desperate time of need. THANK YOU!!!
